Dear CEO, leader
Dear CEO, dear leader,
You have probably read some posts on Twitter and Linkedin today about how you can 10x your company if you spend more tokens. Or that you can replace your engineers with LLM loops. Or that Software Factories produce production-ready features at 5x speed.
5x, let that sink in. You'll be reducing costs and going to market faster. Amazing times for you and the company!
Now take a step back, and wake the fuck up for a second.
Do you actually, really, believe these wild stories? Have you actually, in real life, seen it work? Have you seen an LLM loop produce viable software, in real life? Have you seen a Software Factory, operate and produce actual features and products?
I'm sure you haven't. I'm sure because I write software half of my life and I haven't. I did see:
- LLMs produce code very fast. So fast that people don't understand what they've done. Resulting in churn, bugs, security incidents and very hard to read code.
- LLM loops produce working code. But the code is an over-engineered big ball of mud, that does not do what it's supposed to do.
- Software Factories. On Youtube. These things just don't work and are a pipe dream.
Dear CEO, in any case, take a step back and try to stay off Twitter and Ted talks for a week. Talk to your engineers and people who actually have to use LLMs. Try and reflect and see if you've been caught with AI psychosis. Then have your ROI for LLMs calculated. If you're still convinced that LLMs will change everything™, you can go back to Ted Talks and Twitter.
